Rick Roll

Did it have to be “Never Gonna Give You Up?” To be fair, any song becomes tiresome with that much repetition, and Rick Astley’s pop hit was overplayed back in 1987, when it was a radio smash. The original “Rickroll” was an HTML bait and switch that resurrected the song’s music video and played it for 4chan visitors looking for the first trailer of Grand Theft Audio IV. The joke went very public with a YouTube April Fool’s prank that linked all of the site’s featured videos to the Astley video, then culminated with the surprise live appearance by Astley in the Thanksgiving Day Parade.
