Some of our least favorite early Internet memes



The year was 1996. College kids were online—using graphics-free VAX terminals for the most part—but their parents were not. Web pages loaded at rate you wouldn’t accept from your cell phone today. Not exactly the perfect scenario for a streaming video of a dancing baby to take off, but that’s exactly what happened. Dancing baby kicked off a revolution, and completely pointless, non-commercial “memes” began competing for our headspace.
